Frequently Asked Questions
These are the questions people ask me on the phone, in roughly the order they tend to ask them.
My office is on the second floor of the Ewell House, one of three historic Victorian homes in the 100 block of Figueroa Street in downtown Ventura.
The house sits one block from Main Street and the Mission San Buenaventura, half a block from Tony's Pizza, and three blocks from the Amtrak station, the Fairgrounds, C Street Beach and the Promenade.
Clients come to me from Ventura and the Ojai area. I also meet with people online.
Before your session I send you a link by email or text. There is nothing to download and no app to set up.
I like being able to speak with you briefly before we set up an appointment, so I can answer any initial questions you have and so I know about any scheduling limitations.
Give me a call or send me a message, and we will find a time to talk.
My consultation calls are free and they run 15 minutes. It is our time to talk briefly so we are less like strangers when we meet.
Fifteen minutes is enough for you to hear what I sound like and for me to hear what is bringing you in.
Each session is 55 to 60 minutes.
Currently I accept several insurance plans.
On January 1, 2027 I will transition away from managed care payment arrangements and will be working with cash or credit card payments only.
I work with men, women, couples, and adolescents so yes, yes, yes and yes!
Families and family dynamics are part of my work too.
I love working with all ages and take into consideration each client's developmental stage of their lives that they are currently navigating through.
Nothing your teen says in therapy gets shared with you. There are three exceptions and they are the serious ones.
I will tell you if I believe your teen is in danger of harming themselves, if your teen is being physically harmed by someone, or if your teen has intentions of harming someone else.
A teenager who thinks it will get repeated at home spends the hour managing you instead of working.
Parents do get periodic updates from me on the progress we are making, such as your teen working through feelings, or seeming to feel less anxious or depressed.
I will also ask what you are noticing at home. If you see a difference in behavior, or behavior that concerns you, tell me and I will address the change with your teen.
Yes. I have been licensed since 2000.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Chester University, outside of Philadelphia, and a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Santa Barbara, California.
Before I became a therapist I spent 24 years as a hospital nurse, most of them in intensive and critical care.
Yes, as long as your dog is well mannered and on a leash.
